I Love Katy Perry’s New Video So Much I Wrote A Blog About It.

It’s no secret that I’m mildly obsessed with Katy Perry.  Ever since she revealed her irreverent and self-depricating sense of humor in the video for Last Friday Night, I felt like we were best friends that just didn’t know each other yet. Last week she released a new video for This Is How We Do directed by Joel Kefali (who’s directed videos for Lorde and The Naked and Famous, among others).

I’ve always thought the song was catchy, and of course Katy looks awesome. But what really captivated me about the video was the stellar art direction and minimalist set design. The aesthetic reminds me of one of my favorite illustration/image studios Serial Cut, based in Madrid.

Here are a few reasons why this is one of my favorite music videos to come out this year:

They could have just shot this scene by an actual pool. But this is way cleaner and still gets the point across. In fact, the whole video relies on minimal sets and killer props to convey a place. Also, all the male dancers are dressed like Pee Wee Herman.

I think we’re done here.

Last night we had our second workshop in the studio where we learned how to make Kokedama, a Japanese style hanging plant. Seeing a group of people enjoying the space and creating alongside complete strangers made me so happy. In moments like this I realize that all the hard work is indeed worth it. ✨ #storybookliving
